Harvest the flowers from second year plants when the flowers open. The leaves of the plant can also be harvested for use.

Growing Conditions

USDA Growing Zone(s): Greek Mullein grows well in zones 5-9.

 

This plant is showy and big, with bright yellow flowers and stalks growing up to 8’ tall. This is the most productive and best respected species to grow for flower production, and is an unparalleled nectar producer for honeybees and native pollinators.

 

Mullein is easy to grow, drought tolerant, deer resistant, and prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It will grow well in poor soils.

Medicinal Uses

Historically, Mullein flowers have been made into an oil to naturally treat ear infection and ear aches. It has traditionally also been used to treat respiratory problems, inflamed joints, nerve tension, and irritability. Mullein root has historically been used to treat urinary tract infections.
